Ducks grab sixth with 4-2 win in Calgary

Corey Perry, Ray Emery and the Anaheim Ducks are on a roll.

Perry scored twice to take the NHL lead in goals with 46, Emery stopped 23 shots to remain perfect since joining the Ducks, and Anaheim jumped into sixth place in the West by beating the Calgary Flames 4-2 on Wednesday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.

"That was huge. They've only got a handful games left and it puts us up," said Perry, who clinched the win with an empty-netter in the final minute. "We're putting teams behind us now and we're pushing forward and that's what we're trying to do."

The Ducks have won seven of their last eight and are just two points behind fourth-place Phoenix with a game in hand. They swept the season series against the Flames for the first time in franchise history while using four goaltenders -- including Emery, who improved to 6-0-0 with the Ducks.

The loss was another big blow to the Flames' playoff hopes. Calgary trails eighth-place Chicago by three points with just four games remaining. The Flames have lost seven of their last nine.

"We've just got to bounce back," forward Tim Jackman said. "We just have to keep going, find a way to win."

Added coach Brent Sutter: "We're not quitting. Obviously, losing tonight, our odds diminish. We have to go on the road and play our butts off."

Calgary got off to a fast start when captain Jarome Iginla fired a pass from Alex Tanguay behind Emery just 2:58 after the opening faceoff. But the Flames then began to fill the penalty box -- and paid the price. Bobby Ryan tied it on a wraparound at 8:05 and Perry got a piece of Cam Fowler's shot and deflected it behind Miikka Kiprusoff at 15:40 for a second power-play goal.

The Flames though they had tied the game late in the second when Jackman hammered at a loose puck. It hit the crossbar and Emery snagged it with his blocker as he tumbled into the net. There was no goal call on the ice, and after a lengthy video review, the play was ruled no goal.

Lubomir Visnovsky then gave the Ducks a 3-1 lead when he fired a slapper into the top corner with 1:09 remaining.

Mark Giordano's 5-on-3 goal 32 seconds into the third period cut the deficit to 3-2, but the Flames couldn't get another puck past Emery before Perry hit the empty net to extend his lead in the race for the Rocket Richard Trophy over Tampa Bay's Steven Stamkos to two goals.

"I'm fortunate. I know that a lot of things had to go right for me to even get a chance to play," said Emery, who has given up five goals in four career starts against Calgary. "I'm grateful of every opportunity I get and I just take it as it comes, one step, one game at a time."

The Flames head to St. Louis for a game Friday night in need of a miracle.

"It's tough," forward Matt Stajan. "We're going to need quite a bit of help now."
